Position: Project Engineer, Advanced Design & Applications

Description:
This position requires a passion for excellence and the capability of managing R&D, application engineering and application testing technology projects and assignments with minimal supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
A) Participate in or lead Data Communications Competence Center R&D projects of component or system performance of Nexans products as assigned.

B) Develop internal application testing technology capabilities.

C) Coordinate the development of software tools necessary for application and product development within the Nexans Data Communications Competence Center as directed or required. Work with vendors on outsourced projects.

D) Coordinate internal and external product and application testing used to support sales and marketing programs as assigned including applications validation.

E) Develop and implement procedures for continual benchmarking of the product and system performance of our and key competitive product offerings as directed or required.

F) Develop and maintain a high proficiency in the effect of cable and cabling performance parameters on overall digital systems performance.

G) Assists in coordination of technical issues with various Nexans manufacturing units as needed or directed. Including harmonization of testing methods and procedures and joint R&D engineering projects.

H) Provide technical training and support to customers by providing fiber and copper cable applications, product and installation recommendations.

I) Prepares periodic project and activity reports indicating progress of projects relative to plan.

J) Prepares and presents technical presentations to appropriate customer groups as required. Develop and present white papers and technical articles as directed or required.


REQUIREMENTS:
A) Minimum of three years of product development or application engineering experience, preferably within the data networking or cabling industry, with specific experience or knowledge of products and applications of Twisted-Pair and Fiber Optic Cables with an emphasis on LAN networks OR Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering with a concentration related to data communications.

B) B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

C) Functional knowledge of electronic test equipment used in the development or application benchmarking of fiber and copper data-communications cables and cabling systems.

D) Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills, along with proficient English language fluency.

E) Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional, multicultural team environment.

F) Strong working knowledge of Windows XP or higher and Microsoft Office 2003 or higher. Knowledge of Visual Basic programming, and/or MATLAB helpful.

G) Attainment of BICSI RCDD certification and some national and international travel is required.

H) Knowledge of copper and fiber LAN cabling standards, installation procedures, and practices.
